Find BOP Federal Release Records

Finding someone released from the Federal Bureau of Prisons requires a federal identity match and a careful reading of the locator's release fields. The BOP system can document many former federal prisoners, but it does not cover every person arrested, detained, or transported on a federal matter. No federal prison was verified in Camden County. The locator matters here because a county jail departure can lead into the federal system, or an older federal sentence can have a release record independent of Camden County. Each custody source must be checked on its own terms, with court and receiving-agency records used when the federal path falls outside BOP.

BOP Federal Release Scope

The Federal Bureau of Prisons operates the federal prison system. The research found no BOP prison in Camden County, Missouri. A person can still have a BOP record after a federal prosecution or sentence regardless of the county of arrest. The system is distinct from Camden County Detention Center, MODOC, ICE civil detention, and U.S. Marshals Service pretrial custody.

A Camden County release timestamp proves the county jail ended that booking. It does not prove entry into BOP, nor does it prove community return. USMS manages many federal prisoners from court-ordered custody through disposition and delivery to BOP, often using local, state, or private facilities. USMS has no public nationwide former-prisoner locator. BOP becomes the correct search only when its system holds the record.

Interpret BOP Released Results

BOP's official field explanation says a past release date with no facility location, or a location of RELEASED, means the person is no longer in BOP custody. That is affirmative evidence about BOP. It does not establish that the person has no term of federal supervised release, state hold, ICE custody, or later local booking. “Not in BOP custody” is narrower than “free in Camden County.”

A future release date is projected and can change. An UNKNOWN release date means BOP has not set or published a determined date in the public data. Do not calculate a date from sentence length alone. Credit, sentence structure, court action, detainers, and administrative changes can affect the actual result.

Federal status boundary: RELEASED confirms departure from BOP custody only. Check any later supervision, transfer, or booking with the agency that controls it.
Release date
The date BOP publishes for the federal record, past or projected according to context.
RELEASED
A location label indicating the person is no longer in BOP custody.
Detainer
A hold or transfer request from another authority.
Supervised release
A federal court term in the community after imprisonment, separate from BOP confinement.

Get BOP Release Records

The public locator is the quickest BOP record, but a disputed or older federal event may require more. Preserve the register number, exact release date, location label, and retrieval date. The BOP locator records information explains coverage and field meaning. Pair it with the federal court docket when the sentence, order, or supervised-release term matters.

For a Camden County handoff, request the county custody-transfer record as well. Ask for the release date and time, release disposition, transfer destination, releasing authority, and holds. That record can show whether the county delivered the person to federal authority. A later BOP entry can then confirm federal prison intake, but timing gaps may reflect transport and processing.

If no BOP result appears, do not force the case into the BOP path. Review the federal docket, contact the known physical facility, and determine whether USMS, ICE, a state agency, or another local jail controlled custody. Each record custodian can answer only for its own system.

Camden Federal Release Handoffs

Federal handoffs require a second custody check. ICE's locator can retain records for people released from ICE custody during a recent 60-day period. A Camden County jail departure can also be a transfer into immigration custody. The county release time and the federal immigration result can therefore both be accurate without showing a return to the community.

BOP and ICE are separate. An INS number may be accepted as an identifier in BOP search, but that does not make BOP the ICE detainee locator. Use ICE's own system for civil immigration custody. Search exact identifiers and country of birth when available, then ask for the federal disposition if the result says released.

For the county side of the chain, the Camden County release search covers the sheriff's 48-hour record and older records request. A complete chronology may read: Camden booking, county transfer, federal court or USMS movement, BOP intake, BOP release, and federal supervised release. Skip no stage that is relevant.

BOP Release Search Limits

A name may fail because the person was never in BOP, the record predates the main locator coverage, the person is under another authority, or identity details do not match. A federal arrest by itself does not guarantee a BOP entry. Likewise, an old BOP release record does not describe a new Camden booking. Always attach dates to a status.

No BOP prison in Camden County was identified. The locator is included as a system page because federal custody can follow a local handoff and because former federal prisoners may have a public BOP release date. It should never be presented as a second Camden County jail list.

Note: Preserve the BOP register number with every result because it is the best defense against a same-name federal record error.

Federal Court Release Records

A BOP result says little about the court order that produced the sentence or about a later supervised-release term. Federal court dockets can supply the judgment, sentence, detention or release order, and supervision terms. Use the exact federal case when known. Do not infer that a Camden County criminal case is the federal docket, even if local custody began the path.

For a person moved by USMS before BOP designation, the physical holding facility and federal court may be the only practical public trail. A person can be housed in a state, local, or private facility while under federal authority. The Camden sheriff record should be requested when its booking ended, but it cannot certify later federal placement.

BOP also warns that some people in its historic data were witnesses, civil contemnors, or pretrial detainees. The court record distinguishes those roles from a sentenced federal prisoner. That distinction prevents a past release date from being described as completion of a prison sentence when the underlying federal role was different.

Older BOP Release Records

The locator's primary released-person coverage begins in 1982. An older federal prison record may require the National Archives rather than repeated name searches in the current locator. Gather the full name, birth details, register number if known, court, sentence period, and likely institution before making an archive inquiry.

For post-1982 records, save the public result before asking for more. A past release date, RELEASED location, and register number form a useful evidence set. If the date is UNKNOWN or future, report that label exactly and avoid a homemade estimate.
